Advancing an ambitious industrial and public health strategy to achieve regional vaccine self-reliance, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened a high-level consultative meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai with senior representatives of leading pharmaceutical firm Bharat Biotech. Stalin expressed the firm determination of the Tamil Nadu government to manufacture Covid-19 vaccines indigenously within the state, exploring joint venture frameworks, land allotments, and fiscal incentives to set up modern biopharmaceutical production units.

The Chief Minister highlighted Tamil Nadu superior industrial infrastructure, rich biotechnology talent pool, and well-developed cold-chain logistics networks, offering comprehensive state support to accelerate commercial regulatory approvals and project commissioning. Stalin emphasized that local vaccine manufacturing would shield the state from global supply chain disruptions, guarantee continuous immunization for seven crore citizens, and position Tamil Nadu as a major vaccine manufacturing hub in South Asia. He directed the Industries and Health Departments to coordinate closely with corporate executives to finalize technical feasibility studies and expedite statutory clearances.
