Demonstrating extraordinary environmental concern and administrative thoroughness, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin visited the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur near Chennai to personally inspect veterinary medical protocols after several captive Asiatic lions tested positive for Covid-19. Stalin conducted an extensive review of animal safari enclosures, veterinary quarantine bays, diagnostic sampling procedures, and sanitization measures alongside senior forest department officials and wildlife veterinary epidemiologists.
The Chief Minister inquired about the clinical condition of infected felines, directing wildlife authorities to implement rigorous medical care, immune-boosting diets, and round-the-clock veterinary monitoring to facilitate their speedy recovery. Stalin instructed officials to enforce stringent biosafety protocols for animal keepers, institute periodic screening for all zoo staff, and coordinate closely with national veterinary research institutes to understand interspecies transmission dynamics. He underscored that the DMK government holds wildlife protection and biodiversity preservation in the highest esteem, ensuring all necessary financial and clinical support to protect captive and free-ranging fauna.
Stalin compassionate inspection highlighted a holistic administrative vision that extends care beyond human society to vulnerable captive wildlife. By directing proactive veterinary containment, his leadership safeguarded treasured wildlife populations from emerging zoonotic public health risks.
