Recognizing the profound contributions of traditional artists and their economic distress during prolonged cultural event bans, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated an expanded financial support scheme through the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram. Under this benevolent cultural welfare initiative, Stalin sanctioned monthly financial pensions for an additional one thousand indigent artists across the state, while substantially raising the monthly assistance amount to three thousand rupees.
The Chief Minister highlighted that this welfare expansion directly benefits 6,600 aged classical and folk performing artists, including traditional street play performers, folk percussionists, classical musicians, drama veterans, and folk dancers residing across rural Tamil Nadu. Stalin remarked that folk artists serve as the living repositories of Tamil cultural heritage, noting that the pandemic severely undermined their stage livelihoods. By enhancing recurring pension support, the DMK government aimed to guarantee dignified sustenance and social security to veteran creators who dedicated their lives to enriching native performing arts.
Stalin compassionate intervention reflected the deep cultural consciousness of the Dravidian movement. By shielding impoverished cultural custodians from penury, his leadership honored Tamil artistic traditions and ensured economic security for veteran performers.
