Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally opened the sluice gates of the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur in Salem district, releasing an initial discharge of three thousand cusecs of irrigation water into the Cauvery river for the annual Kuruvai paddy cultivation season. By opening the reservoir on the traditional calendar date of June 12, Stalin ensured that Cauvery delta farmers receive timely water supplies to commence nursery preparations and transplanting operations without delay.

Addressing farmers and public works engineers at the dam site, the Chief Minister promised that water releases would be steadily calibrated and augmented throughout the agricultural season to match field irrigation demands. Stalin urged farmers across delta districts to practice prudent water management and adopt water-saving methods to maximize agricultural output. He proclaimed that when the Cauvery delta, revered as the historic food bowl and granary of Tamil Nadu, prospers with golden harvests, the entire economic landscape of Tamil Nadu will achieve flourishing prosperity.
