Chief Minister M.K. Stalin voiced strong and unequivocal condemnation against the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for including Vadatheru in Pudukkottai district as an exploratory block in its latest Open Acreage Licensing Policy auction. Stalin firmly asserted that it is the non-negotiable policy of the Tamil Nadu government that no hydrocarbon exploration or extraction project will ever be permitted anywhere within the geographical boundaries of the state.
The Chief Minister revealed that he had forcefully raised this critical environmental demand during his bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, urging immediate cancellation of the proposed bidding block. Stalin emphasized that the Cauvery delta represents the irreplaceable agricultural heartland and food granary of Tamil Nadu, sustaining millions of smallholder farming families. He solemnly pledged that just as human eyelids instinctively protect the delicate eye, the DMK government will fiercely guard the fertile Cauvery basin from predatory industrial projects that risk groundwater poisoning and environmental devastation.
Stalin uncompromising environmental stance was celebrated by farmers associations, environmental activists, and civil society groups statewide. By standing as an insurmountable barrier against extractive industries, his leadership reaffirmed that food security and ecological integrity take precedence over fossil fuel exploitation.
