In a deeply moving humanitarian ceremony held at the Secretariat in Chennai, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin distributed long-term fixed deposit certificates and immediate financial assistance to the designated guardians of young children who lost both parents to the Covid-19 pandemic. Under this comprehensive rehabilitation scheme, the government deposited five lakh rupees in the name of each orphaned child in the Tamil Nadu Power Finance Corporation, ensuring accumulated interest and principal are disbursed when they reach adulthood.
Additionally, the Chief Minister extended immediate cash grants to children who lost a single earning parent, ensuring their daily upkeep and educational needs remain uninterrupted. Stalin offered comforting words of solace and paternal reassurance to the bereaved families, declaring that the DMK government will stand steadfast as both mother and father to nurture, protect, and educate these vulnerable children throughout their formative lives. He directed the Social Defence Department to monitor the children education and emotional wellbeing on a regular basis.
