Chief Minister M.K. Stalin personally handed over a financial assistance cheque of five lakh rupees to C.A. Ramani, the mother of trailblazing athlete C.A. Bhavani Devi, who made history as the very first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympic Games. Meeting the Olympian family at the Secretariat in Chennai, Stalin extended warm congratulations, wishing Bhavani Devi triumphant victory, multiple medals, and international glory at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Stalin praised Bhavani Devi relentless perseverance in conquering an elite, expensive combat sport that had never witnessed Indian representation on the Olympic stage. Acknowledging that the athlete was undergoing intensive specialized training abroad in Italy, the Chief Minister provided the government incentive to cover advanced equipment, nutritional regimes, and coaching expenses. Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu takes immense pride in her extraordinary sporting breakthrough, expressing confident hope that Tamil athletic talent will raise the national flag high on global podiums.
Stalin prompt financial backing exemplified his administration hands-on approach to athlete encouragement and sports development. By ensuring that financial constraints never impede talented sports persons preparing for world tournaments, his leadership established an enabling environment for international athletic excellence.
