Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a crucial policy communication to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan, presenting two urgent structural demands regarding national Covid-19 vaccine distribution. Stalin urged the Union government to allocate vaccine supplies strictly proportionate to the total adult population of each state, and to revise the procurement policy by increasing the vaccine quota for government healthcare facilities to ninety percent.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the prevailing policy allocating twenty-five percent of national production to private hospitals resulted in immense wastage and inequality, as private hospitals across non-metropolitan districts lacked the patient uptake to utilize allocated stocks. In contrast, state-run primary health centers and government hospitals, which provide free vaccination to the working-class majority, faced acute supply deficits and forced shutdowns. Stalin argued that reallocating ninety percent of vaccine supplies to public hospitals would immediately accelerate universal immunization.
Stalin evidence-based intervention highlighted his role as an uncompromising advocate for federal equity and public health democratization. By challenging centralized procurement distortions, Stalin fought to ensure that life-saving vaccines reach ordinary citizens through well-equipped public medical institutions without economic discrimination.
