Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin welcomed the Union government decision to notify 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes in the All India Quota for undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats, hailing it as a triumphant vindication of the persistent legal and political battles waged by the DMK. Stalin pointed out that this vital concession was secured through relentless advocacy in the Madras High Court and Supreme Court, ending years of unconstitutional denial of OBC rights in medical admissions.

While acknowledging the announcement as an important milestone, the Chief Minister reiterated Tamil Nadu firm and uncompromising demand that OBC candidates must be granted 50 percent reservation in state-surrendered AIQ seats, in full alignment with the state existing statutory quota laws. Stalin affirmed that the DMK administration will relentlessly pursue legal and democratic avenues until complete, proportionate social justice is realized for backward classes across the country.

Stalin principled stand highlighted his role as an uncompromising champion of affirmative action and constitutional equity. By holding the Centre accountable to statutory reservation principles, his leadership safeguarded thousands of medical seats for backward class aspirants and strengthened the nationwide struggle for inclusive social justice.
