Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid glowing homage to Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy on her 136th birth anniversary, celebrating India first woman legislator and medical pioneer who blazed a revolutionary trail during an era suffocated by reactionary orthodoxy and deep gender oppression. Stalin recalled how Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy fought relentlessly against social evils, abolishing the exploitative Devadasi system, founding the iconic Cancer Institute in Adyar, and establishing Avvai Illam to shelter destitute women and orphaned girls.
The Chief Minister stressed that her trailblazing life remains an eternal beacon for the feminist emancipatory agenda of the Dravidian movement. Stalin called upon society to redouble efforts toward creating a truly gender-equal environment where women enjoy complete bodily autonomy, economic independence, educational opportunities, and dignified leadership representation across all spheres of public and professional life.
Stalin tribute showcased his progressive feminist worldview and deep alignment with reformist pioneers. By celebrating Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy transformative legacy, his administration reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women rights through transformative policies like fare-free bus travel, higher education allowances, and gender parity in governance. This vision places the empowerment and self-respect of women at the very center of progressive state building.
