Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled a landmark Rs. 317 crore comprehensive welfare and infrastructure package in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for Sri Lankan Tamils residing in state rehabilitation camps and non-camp households. Recalling the continuous efforts made by DMK administrations under Muthamizharignar Kalaignar to shelter and support Eelam Tamils fleeing wartime persecution, Stalin declared that his government is dedicated to ensuring that camp residents lead dignified, secure, and empowered lives with full institutional backing.

The comprehensive assistance program includes constructing 7,469 safe, disaster-resilient houses at Rs. 231 crore to replace decrepit temporary shelters across 106 camps. In addition, the government committed to fully funding the higher education and vocational training expenses of camp youth, providing educational scholarships, free gas connections with subsidized stoves, and monthly nutritional support. Stalin also instituted skill development programs, revolving credit funds for self-help groups, and monthly subsistence allowances for elderly residents to guarantee sustainable livelihood self-sufficiency.

Stalin historic legislative announcement represented one of the most generous humanitarian assistance packages ever formulated for displaced populations in India.
