Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that residential facilities housing Sri Lankan Tamils across Tamil Nadu, previously designated as refugee camps, would henceforth be officially designated as Sri Lankan Tamils Rehabilitation Camps. Explaining the profound moral necessity of this semantic and policy change, Stalin stated that the term refugee carries connotations of alienation and helplessness, whereas our fellow Tamils who crossed the ocean amidst genocidal conflict are an inseparable part of the global Tamil fraternity.
The renaming marks an essential shift in administrative philosophy from temporary containment to structured humanitarian rehabilitation, civil dignity, and long-term socio-economic integration. Alongside the redesignation, the state government launched substantial infrastructure upgrades within these settlements, replacing dilapidated asbestos huts with permanent masonry houses, installing clean drinking water connections, and improving neighborhood sanitation. Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu will always stand as a compassionate shelter and loving brotherly home for Sri Lankan Tamil brothers and sisters.
Stalin compassionate policy initiative reflected the Dravidian movement enduring kinship and historical solidarity with Eelam Tamils. His thoughtful reform restored emotional reassurance and human dignity to thousands of camp residents living in prolonged administrative uncertainty.
