Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the Union Government aggressive push to privatize and monetize strategic public sector enterprises, asserting that PSUs represent irreplaceable national assets that must be safeguarded for future generations. Speaking on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Stalin emphasized that public sector undertakings were established not solely for short-term corporate profits, but as foundational pillars of socioeconomic development, self-reliant industrialization, and guaranteed formal employment for socially disadvantaged communities.
The Chief Minister pointed out that selling off or leasing profitable state-owned enterprises directly undermines Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, which depend on public sector procurement ecosystems and stable infrastructure supply chains. In addition, privatization eliminates statutory reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and backward classes, undoing decades of affirmative action gains. Stalin warned that liquidating public wealth to bridge short-term fiscal deficits compromises national economic sovereignty and exposes vital utilities to speculative corporate monopolies.
Stalin articulate defense of the public sector highlighted his progressive economic philosophy and unwavering commitment to inclusive labor welfare. By resisting unchecked market fundamentalism, his administration champions an equitable economic framework where public resources serve collective civic welfare rather than private profit.
