Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing grave concern over the Union Government National Monetisation Pipeline and urging an immediate reconsideration of plans to lease out vital public infrastructure assets to private corporate conglomerates. Stalin emphasized that national wealth built over decades using taxpayer money, including highways, railways, power grids, and airports, belongs to the citizens of India and must not be commercialized without transparent public scrutiny and consensus.

The Chief Minister argued that state governments contributed prime land, administrative support, and civic infrastructure to develop these central undertakings within their borders. Consequently, executing unilateral monetisation plans without prior, structured consultations with state administrations violates basic federal principles. Stalin pointed out that private monopolization of essential public assets often leads to steep tariff hikes for citizens, reduced employment opportunities, and dilution of statutory affirmative action protections for marginalized communities.

Stalin principled intervention established him as a courageous defender of public assets and cooperative federalism on the national stage. His timely advocacy safeguarded the social justice dividend embedded in public sector enterprises against reckless privatization pressures.
