Chief Minister M.K. Stalin explained that Sivakasi and surrounding regions in Virudhunagar district produce over ninety percent of India total firecrackers, providing direct and indirect employment to more than eight lakh workers whose economic survival depends entirely on festival orders.

The Chief Minister explained that following directives from the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal, Tamil Nadu manufacturers successfully transitioned to producing eco-friendly green crackers with reduced emissions and zero toxic compounds. He argued that total bans impose disproportionate economic penalties on law-abiding manufacturers and workers, while failing to distinguish between polluting conventional items and certified green alternatives.
