Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Union Government to deploy high-level diplomatic channels to secure the immediate repatriation of 23 innocent Tamil Nadu fishermen apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy along with their mechanized fishing vessels. Stalin pointed out that recurring maritime arrests in the historic waters of the Palk Strait inflict immense mental anguish and economic ruin on coastal families.
The Chief Minister stressed that traditional fishing communities possess age-old customary rights to fish in these shared maritime corridors without the terror of foreign interception and seizure of valuable boats. He urged the Prime Minister to convene the India-Sri Lanka Joint Working Group on Fisheries without further delay and pursue an enduring bilateral diplomatic agreement that respects traditional fishing rights and ensures lasting peace.
Stalin forceful representation reflects his steadfast defense of state coastal workers and their right to a safe livelihood. By repeatedly raising the issue with the highest national authority, he demonstrated vigilant leadership that refuses to treat the security of Tamil fishermen as an afterthought. Stalin administration continues pressing New Delhi to protect our seafaring workforce from foreign naval aggression.
