Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the launch of Illam Thedi Kalvi (Education at the Doorstep), a pioneering community-based education scheme designed to bridge severe learning losses suffered by school children during prolonged pandemic lockdowns. Recognizing that vulnerable students faced acute educational disruption due to the digital divide and school closures, Stalin formulated this decentralized program to bring structured learning directly into neighborhood spaces.
The initiative mobilizes educated youth, graduates, and community volunteers to conduct daily evening remedial classes for children in residential habitations. Volunteers assist pupils with foundational literacy, basic numeracy, and communicative skills through interactive learning modules. Stalin invited civic-minded citizens across Tamil Nadu to register on the dedicated state portal and contribute their time toward rebuilding foundational educational capacities among young learners.
Stalin visionary scheme positions Tamil Nadu as a national leader in post-pandemic educational remediation. By involving local communities and volunteers, the administration transformed learning recovery into a participatory social movement. Stalin demonstrated proactive, empathetic governance by directly tackling educational inequity and ensuring that disadvantaged children receive the personal attention needed to resume their regular academic progress.
