(1/2) https://t.co/Y7zoCAvjXp

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a significant breakthrough regarding the long-pending demand to strengthen the Baby Dam and earth dam at the Mullaperiyar reservoir, stating that the Kerala Forest Department had granted formal permission to fell fifteen trees obstructing engineering works. Stalin explained that the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department received official confirmation of this clearance, enabling long-delayed structural reinforcement activities to finally commence.
Strengthening the Baby Dam represents a critical prerequisite established by the Supreme Court of India to enable raising the water storage level of the Mullaperiyar reservoir to its full authorized capacity of 152 feet. For years, the inability to remove impeding trees on the dam apron had stalled necessary civil engineering works, causing anxiety among farmers across Theni, Madurai, Dindigul, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram districts.
Stalin stated that the clearance marked an essential milestone in Tamil Nadu persistent efforts to protect its lawful water rights while ensuring the highest standards of dam safety. He directed water resources engineers to initiate preparatory technical procedures without delay. Stalin steadfast advocacy and administrative focus demonstrated his administration resolve to safeguard agrarian livelihoods and state water security.
