Chief Minister M.K. Stalin constituted a high-powered committee comprising six cabinet ministers under the leadership of Minister I. Periyasamy to directly inspect extensive crop submergence across the Cauvery delta districts and accelerate emergency relief operations. Prompted by relentless monsoon rains that inundated vast agricultural acreages, Stalin directed the panel to camp in farming belts, review ground realities, and submit a comprehensive damage dossier to the state cabinet.
The ministerial team was tasked with examining breaches along drainage channels, reviewing crop submergence levels, coordinating with district collectors, and hearing grievances from local farming unions. Stalin emphasized that rapid ground assessments are essential to formulate targeted relief packages and deliver financial assistance to impacted cultivators without bureaucratic bottlenecks.
The Chief Minister stressed that saving standing crops and safeguarding agrarian livelihoods in the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu is an urgent government priority. In addition to technical assessments, the committee will supervise the deployment of high-capacity dewatering pumps and agricultural inputs to assist farmers. Stalin decisive action underscored his administration deep sensitivity toward the agricultural community and committed leadership during unprecedented agrarian emergencies.
