Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the commercial sales of 'Valimai Cement', an innovative, high-grade cement brand manufactured and marketed by the state-owned Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation Limited (TANCEM) under the Department of Industries. The strategic market introduction was formulated to curb escalating cement prices in the open retail market, regulate speculative price spikes, and support affordable residential housing construction for low and middle-income families across the state.
Produced through advanced manufacturing processes, Valimai Cement offers superior compressive strength, enhanced durability, and quick setting times, meeting stringent national quality certifications. Stalin announced that the state-produced cement will be made available to the public at highly competitive, subsidized retail rates through cooperative societies, agricultural banks, and authorized retail outlets across all districts, preventing monopolistic market exploitation by private conglomerates.
The Chief Minister stressed that stimulating the building and construction industry is vital for driving economic revival, generating employment for millions of construction laborers, and expanding affordable urban and rural housing stock. He commended TANCEM management and workers for revitalizing public sector manufacturing. Stalin market intervention underscored a proactive governance approach that uses public sector capacity to protect consumer welfare and spur industrial growth.
