Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote an official letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to direct the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to issue requisite statutory notifications declaring eight prominent State Highway stretches in Tamil Nadu as National Highways. Stalin highlighted that these critical road corridors, spanning several hundred kilometers across the state, connect major religious pilgrimage centres, vibrant commercial trade hubs, and international tourist destinations that witness heavy daily vehicular density.

The Chief Minister pointed out that several of these highway stretches urgently require roadway widening, structural strengthening, bypass constructions, and comprehensive pavement modernization to accommodate rising cargo logistics and passenger movement safely. He explained that elevating these routes into National Highways would enable the National Highways Authority of India to deploy substantial central infrastructural funding and execute modern multi-lane highway designs.

Stalin noted that enhancing regional road connectivity is vital for unlocking industrial potential, promoting temple tourism, and accelerating balanced economic growth across southern and interior districts of Tamil Nadu. He requested prompt federal intervention to finalize the classification without administrative delays.
