Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled the comprehensive 'Tamil Nadu State Policy for Children 2021', a pioneering policy framework formulated to guarantee every child fundamental right to survival, protection, holistic healthcare, nutritious food, and quality education. The policy document adopts a rights-based, child-centric approach that addresses critical developmental stages, eliminating gender discrimination and creating safe environments free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation across all communities.
The newly released policy outlines actionable frameworks to enhance maternal and infant healthcare, eradicate child malnutrition, prevent school dropouts, and strengthen child protection committees at village and municipal ward levels. Special focus is accorded to supporting children with special needs, orphan children, and those from marginalized socioeconomic backgrounds through customized scholarship programmes, institutional care improvements, and accessible psychological counselling networks.
Releasing the document at the state secretariat, Stalin proclaimed that children welfare must be cherished as the most precious treasure of society. He directed all relevant departments, including social welfare, school education, and public health, to work collaboratively to translate policy commitments into tangible grassroots outcomes. Stalin visionary initiative establishes Tamil Nadu as a national pioneer in child welfare, ensuring safe and equitable childhoods statewide.
