On World Fisheries Day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conveyed warm greetings to the fishing community across Tamil Nadu, reaffirming his government deep commitment to safeguarding their livelihoods, traditional rights, and coastal security. Stalin underscored that historically, DMK administrations under former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi conceptualized and implemented landmark welfare programmes for fishermen, including modern housing colonies, subsidized diesel quotas, motorized fishing craft assistance, and comprehensive lean-period relief allowances.

The Chief Minister stressed that coastal fishing communities face mounting socioeconomic and environmental challenges, ranging from erratic climate patterns and maritime boundary disputes to volatile fuel expenditures. He affirmed that his administration accords special administrative attention to resolving grievances faced by traditional fisherfolk, ensuring modern harbor infrastructure, seamless cold-chain facilities, and fair pricing mechanisms for marine catch across coastal landing centers.

Stalin pledged that the state government will vigorously pursue welfare initiatives, expand insurance protection for high-seas ventures, and strongly defend the territorial fishing rights of Tamil fishermen. Emphasizing that maritime workers contribute significantly to the state economy and food security, Stalin reiterated his resolve to formulate responsive policies that guarantee economic resilience and personal dignity for all fishing families.
