Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote an urgent letter to Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia, highlighting the acute travel hardships faced by non-resident Tamils and permanent residents of Singapore and Malaysia due to the lack of regular commercial flight operations. Stalin pointed out that thousands of overseas workers, business travelers, and students from Tamil Nadu were experiencing immense personal distress and exorbitant airfares under limited repatriation schedules.
To resolve the transportation bottlenecks, Stalin strongly urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation to formalize temporary 'Air Transport Bubble' bilateral agreements with Singapore and Malaysia. Such travel arrangements would restore scheduled direct flight connections from Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, and Coimbatore, offering affordable and predictable travel options for the diaspora traveling between Tamil Nadu and Southeast Asian nations.
The Chief Minister stressed that the Tamil diaspora shares deep economic, cultural, and familial ties with Singapore and Malaysia, making uninterrupted international connectivity essential. He requested prompt central intervention to facilitate seamless movement for expatriates returning for emergencies, family reunions, or employment resumption. Stalin timely representation demonstrated his attentive concern for the diaspora, actively advocating for their rights and connectivity with their home state.
