The price volatility of cotton and yarn has caused a crisis in Textile Industry of TN. In this regard, I've requested Hon'ble @PiyushGoyal to instruct the concerned ministries to take necessary actions to remedy the current situation and prevent loss of jobs in Textile Industry. https://t.co/cHSOQdmdXm

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote an urgent letter to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, highlighting the acute crisis confronting Tamil Nadu textile industry due to severe price volatility in cotton and yarn. Stalin pointed out that sudden surges in raw material costs have disrupted operations across spinning mills, handloom sectors, powerlooms, and garment manufacturing clusters in Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Erode, and Karur.
The Chief Minister requested the central government to direct concerned ministries to take decisive corrective measures, stabilize raw material pricing, and check speculative hoarding of cotton bales. He stressed that unhindered escalation in yarn prices threatens international export competitiveness and jeopardizes the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of textile workers and artisans dependent on the sector.
Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu accounts for a major share of India textile output and clothing exports, making price stability essential for national economic resilience. He urged immediate policy interventions, including removal of import duties on raw cotton and regulated domestic availability. Through this timely federal appeal, Stalin championed the concerns of small and medium entrepreneurs while safeguarding vital industrial employment.
