Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin handed over a cheque for 129 crore 59 lakh rupees to the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Power Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TNPFCL) to support financially non-remunerative temples. The financial allocation doubles the government permanent deposit fund from one lakh rupees to two lakh rupees each for 12,959 small and village shrines across the state. This corpus ensures that at least one daily worship ritual (Oru Kala Poojai) is conducted without financial disruption.

The Oru Kala Poojai initiative, originally introduced during the DMK regime under former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, addresses the operating needs of rural and neglected shrines. By doubling the endowment deposit, the accrued interest income guarantees dependable monthly honorariums for archakas and covers daily ritual requirements like oil, camphor, and floral offerings.

Stalin highlighted that the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department is committed to preserving temple heritage, renovating historic shrines, and safeguarding temple lands statewide. This funding provides economic security to hereditary temple priests while sustaining age-old spiritual traditions in rural communities, demonstrating inclusive governance that honours cultural faith and religious traditions.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
