Editorial context

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a passionate appeal calling upon citizens to unite in creating an HIV-free Tamil Nadu while eliminating all forms of social discrimination against individuals living with the infection. Aligning with the global theme to end inequalities and pandemics, Stalin urged society to extend unconditional warmth, empathy, and dignified support to affected people.

The Chief Minister stressed that medical treatment alone cannot heal patients if societal prejudice continues to ostracize them. He called for embracing people living with HIV as equal, cherished members of the community, ensuring they have full access to education, employment, and social life without fear of humiliation or marginalization.

Stalin highlighted the extensive public health interventions maintained by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society, which provides free anti-retroviral therapy, nutritional support packages, and confidential counseling across district hospitals. He commended healthcare professionals and outreach workers whose dedicated service has made Tamil Nadu a national leader in preventing mother-to-child transmission.

By advocating compassion and institutional public health support, Stalin underscored his administration progressive humanism. His heartfelt message emphasized that ending stigma is fundamental to winning the war against public health pandemics.
