Conducting extensive field evaluations along Chennai southern IT corridor, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspected critical flood mitigation engineering works, including the direct stormwater drainage channel linking Pallikaranai marshland to the Buckingham Canal. Stalin also evaluated the construction of a 70-meter wide high-level bridge along the Medavakkam–Sholinganallur arterial highway designed to ensure unobstructed floodwater discharge.
Following the engineering review, the Chief Minister visited the Semmancheri Tsunami Rehabilitation Quarters, where water stagnation had severely disrupted community life. Stalin interacted with affected families, heard their personal grievances regarding civic amenities, and distributed comprehensive relief packages containing dry rations, clothing, bedsheets, and financial assistance to impacted households.
Stalin affirmed that his administration is determined to transform Chennai drainage infrastructure so that future monsoon downpours discharge swiftly without flooding residential settlements. He instructed engineers to maintain round-the-clock monitoring and expedite channel desilting to ensure surplus water from urban wetlands flows freely into the sea.
Through targeted engineering reviews and compassionate relief distribution, Stalin demonstrated comprehensive disaster governance. His proactive field visits combined immediate humanitarian solace for marginalized urban residents with long-term hydrological upgrades designed to safeguard Chennai southern suburbs.
