Promoting nutritional security and self-reliance, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the Oottam Tharum Kaikari Thottam scheme under the Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops. The state initiative provides subsidized vegetable seed kits, organic manure, and nutritional plant varieties to encourage urban and rural families to cultivate fresh vegetables on their home terraces and backyard gardens.

Launching the scheme at the Secretariat in Chennai, Stalin personally handed over garden cultivation kits and nutritional sapling bundles to beneficiary families. The kits feature high-yield vegetable varieties, medicinal plants, and bio-fertilizers designed to help households harvest fresh, chemical-free greens and vegetables directly from their homes, improving family nutrition while reducing monthly grocery expenses.

The Chief Minister stressed that balanced nutrition is the cornerstone of public health and physical well-being. By empowering citizens to grow their own fresh produce, the government promotes sustainable urban agriculture, environmental greening, and healthy dietary habits across Tamil Nadu communities.
