Demonstrating deep reverence for Tamil literary scholarship, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin handed over official copyright compensation payments to the families and legal heirs of six renowned scholars whose literary works were nationalized by the Tamil Nadu government. The honored intellectuals include Silamboli Su. Chellappan, Dr. Tho. Paramasivan, Pulavar Ilankumaranar, Murugesa Bhagavathar, Sankaravalli Nayagam, and Pulavar Se. Rasu.
Nationalizing these seminal works places valuable anthropological treatises, linguistic studies, historical research, and classical commentaries into the public domain. This policy ensures that future generations of researchers, students, and bibliophiles can access, reprint, and study these literary treasures without commercial restrictions or prohibitive copyright hurdles across libraries and educational institutions.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Stalin described the financial compensation as a humble token of state gratitude toward intellectuals who dedicated their lives to enriching Tamil thought, language, and cultural history. He affirmed that patronizing scholars forms a sacred duty of any self-respecting democratic administration.
Through this thoughtful intervention, Stalin preserved invaluable cultural knowledge while extending honorable financial security to the scholars' descendants. The decision reinforces Tamil Nadu enduring commitment to literary patronage, classical scholarship, and accessible intellectual heritage.
