Chief Minister M.K. Stalin underscored his personal dedication to the women self-help group movement, describing it as an initiative exceptionally close to his heart. The pioneering initiative was first launched in Dharmapuri district in 1989 under former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to build female financial self-sufficiency, social mobility, and collective leadership.
Stalin reflected on how this visionary programme blossomed from humble grassroots beginnings into a massive socioeconomic transformation across Tamil Nadu. By providing institutional financial assistance, leadership training, and collective bargaining power, the movement shattered patriarchal barriers, allowing women to run businesses and secure household stability.
The Chief Minister stated that his administration continues to nurture this heritage by introducing enhanced credit access, livelihood subsidies, and modern marketing avenues for women-led enterprises. Protecting and expanding Karunanidhi welfare foundation remains a guiding priority of the present government.
Through sustained institutional backing, Stalin ensures that women empowerment remains central to state policy. His heartfelt commitment honors historic social justice milestones while providing contemporary resources, ensuring every woman possesses the economic strength and social security to lead an independent and self-respecting life in society.
