Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dedicated the Kathipara Urban Square to public use in Chennai, transforming vacant ground beneath the Kathipara grade separator into an integrated community center. The flyover was originally constructed under former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Through the Singara Chennai initiative, the space below has been redesigned into pedestrian plazas, recreational avenues, cultural installations, and bus transit hubs.
The project highlights creative urban spatial planning, turning previously neglected road junctions into safe public gathering zones. The square provides green landscaped walks, food courts, retail booths, and seamless multimodal connectivity linking Alandur metro station with local bus networks. Stalin noted that reimagining civic spaces elevates urban livability for daily commuters.
This inauguration demonstrates the administration vision of modern infrastructure blending utilitarian transport with community amenities. Stalin reiterated that progressive urban design should celebrate Tamil culture while addressing civic needs through clean public infrastructure and pedestrian convenience.
By turning transit infrastructure into cultural gathering spots, the government continues to revitalize the capital. Stalin persistent push toward sustainable urban rejuvenation reflects a dedication to modernizing Chennai while ensuring public spaces remain accessible and welcoming for families.
