Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed the acute urban disruptions caused by an unexpected downpour across Chennai, noting that the torrential cloudburst far exceeded all meteorological forecasts. Within a few afternoon hours, localized rain bands dumped intense volumes of water, inundating arterial roadways, subway crossings, and low-lying neighbourhoods while causing severe vehicular gridlock across the metropolitan area. Stalin observed that unpredictable atmospheric conditions had created sudden civic challenges that required rapid field interventions.
In response to the sudden inundation, the Chief Minister instructed the Greater Chennai Corporation, traffic police, and State Disaster Response Force to coordinate on-ground operations immediately. Traffic personnel were deployed at major intersections to regulate vehicle flow and divert commuters around submerged underpasses, while civic teams activated high-capacity water pumps to clear clogged roads. Municipal authorities opened community kitchens and mobilized emergency relief squads to assist stranded motorists and transit commuters.
Stalin affirmed that the state government was deploying all administrative machinery to restore normal civic mobility and clear stormwater swiftly. His transparent acknowledgement of severe weather conditions alongside prompt operational mobilization underscored his administration's practical and accountable approach to urban crisis management.
