Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the Governor of Tamil Nadu for deliberately withholding the anti-NEET exemption bill passed unanimously by the state Legislative Assembly, declaring that failing to forward the bill to the President of India violates democratic principles and undermines legislative sovereignty. Stalin stated that when an elected legislature representing eight crore citizens unanimously enacts legislation, an appointed constitutional dignitary has no authority to stall the constitutional process.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the bill was drafted on the solid empirical foundation of the high-level Justice A.K. Rajan Committee report, which proved that NEET severely disadvantages rural, poor, and government school students. By detaining the bill without forwarding it for presidential assent, the Governor creates an unconstitutional impediment to the legislature's lawmaking powers. Stalin argued that this administrative inaction subverts federal governance norms and denies justice to thousands of aspiring medical students.
Stalin called upon all democratic and progressive forces to condemn this unconstitutional obstructionism. He reaffirmed that the DMK government will employ all legal, legislative, and public avenues to ensure the anti-NEET bill receives presidential consideration and becomes law.
