Chief Minister M.K. Stalin visited Erode district, widely recognized as the historical cradle of the Dravidian self-respect movement, inaugurating completed developmental works, laying foundation stones for transformative infrastructure projects, and distributing welfare assistance to thousands of local beneficiaries. Highlighting key developmental commitments, Stalin officially announced that the historic Chikkaiah Naicker College in Erode will be taken over by the state and converted into a government-run arts and science institution.
The Chief Minister announced the development of modern bus terminals in Erode and surrounding municipal hubs to ease chronic passenger congestion and upgrade regional transport links. He dedicated upgraded drinking water schemes, rural road improvements, and civic buildings built to cater to local communities across urban and rural blocks. Stalin explained that converting Chikkaiah Naicker College into a full-fledged government institution fulfills a longstanding demand of the local community, ensuring subsidized higher education for students from rural agrarian families.
Stalin reiterated that Erode holds immense emotional and ideological significance for the Dravidian movement as the birthplace of Thanthai Periyar. He vowed that his administration will consistently prioritize equitable regional industrialization, civic modernization, and educational empowerment throughout western Tamil Nadu.
