Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the magnificent Kalaignar Memorial Library in Madurai, initiating construction on a world-class public knowledge institution named after former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Commemorating Karunanidhi's enduring literary, cultural, and political contributions to Tamil Nadu, Stalin described the library project as a monumental step toward establishing an intellectually vibrant society across the southern districts.
The modern multi-story complex, modeled on prestigious international knowledge centers, was designed to house over three hundred thousand books, rare historical manuscripts, scientific journals, and an extensive digital media repository. Stalin highlighted specialized sections dedicated to competitive examination preparation, children's interactive learning zones, audio-visual libraries for visually impaired readers, and advanced research facilities for Sangam literature. He emphasized that the library will democratize access to quality educational resources for rural and urban students alike throughout southern Tamil Nadu.
Stalin affirmed that investing in public libraries honors the Dravidian movement's foundational commitment to social emancipation through education and rationalist thought. He instructed public works engineers to execute construction adhering strictly to world-class architectural and safety benchmarks, ensuring timely completion for public benefit.
