Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant statutory exemption to Tamil Nadu from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, emphasizing that the entrance exam threatens the foundational student intake structure of the state's robust public health system. Meeting Union leaders, Stalin insisted that admission to undergraduate medical courses must be returned to state jurisdiction based on qualifying higher secondary examination marks.
Simultaneously, the Chief Minister submitted a formal memorandum to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, demanding the immediate operational acceleration of the long-delayed All India Institute of Medical Sciences project at Thoppur in Madurai. Stalin pointed out that while AIIMS institutions announced concurrently across other Indian states had commenced operations, the Madurai project remained stalled without significant physical construction. Additionally, he presented a compelling proposal to establish a premier AIIMS facility in Coimbatore to cater to western Tamil Nadu's industrial population.
Stalin reiterated that equitable healthcare infrastructure and fair educational access are fundamental constitutional priorities. He assured that the state administration stands ready to extend land, water, and road connectivity support to expedite these vital medical institutions.
