Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspected the state-of-the-art campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Perumbakkam, Chennai, dedicating eight newly published research volumes and evaluating academic projects dedicated to classical Tamil literature. Recalling that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had relentlessly advocated to secure classical status for Tamil and establish this specialized research institute, Stalin reaffirmed his administration's dedication to promoting classical Tamil globally.
During his inspection, the Chief Minister reviewed progress across key academic divisions, including multilingual translations of Sangam literary corpuses, critical editions of ancient grammars, and digital archival projects. He stressed the importance of digitizing fragile palm-leaf manuscripts and epigraphical records using modern digital technologies, making ancient texts accessible to global philologists, linguistic historians, and students. Stalin also held detailed discussions with resident scholars regarding prospective international research fellowships and academic collaborations.
Stalin emphasized that the timeless ethical philosophies articulated in ancient Tamil classics like Tirukkural and Sangam poetry offer profound humanist solutions to contemporary societal problems. He assured uninterrupted state budgetary support for advanced linguistics research, expressing his heartfelt wish that the richness of classical Tamil continues spreading across universities worldwide.
