In this regard, I've written to Hon'ble @AmitShah requesting his urgent intervention in getting the assistance to TN sanctioned early. https://t.co/OsRXgGdMPy

Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote an urgent letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking prompt sanction of financial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund to help Tamil Nadu recover from unprecedented northeast monsoon inundation. Pointing out that back-to-back torrential rainfall and the third wave of Covid-19 infections severely strained state public finances, Stalin appealed for immediate central fiscal intervention to support rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

The Chief Minister outlined the extensive damage inflicted by extreme weather events across agricultural tracts, irrigation canals, village roads, and urban drainage networks in multiple coastal and delta districts. He noted that the state administration depleted emergency reserves to conduct massive rescue operations, provide immediate relief packages to displaced families, and initiate urgent repairs of essential civic infrastructure. Stalin emphasized that without timely central allocations, the fiscal pressure on ongoing development projects will increase substantially.

Stalin reminded the Centre that inter-ministerial central teams had already inspected flood-affected regions and assessed the quantum of material losses. He urged the Union Home Ministry to expedite necessary approvals without procedural delays, reiterating that swift central cooperation is vital to help vulnerable farmers and coastal communities restore their livelihoods.
