Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that Tamil Nadu's tableau commemorating historical anti-imperialist freedom fighters will feature prominently in Chennai's official Republic Day celebrations and embark on an extensive public exhibition tour across all districts. The decision followed the Union government's controversial rejection of the state's tableau proposal for the national Republic Day parade in New Delhi, which showcased prominent figures of India's early independence struggle.
Stalin declared that attempts to diminish or erase Tamil Nadu's pioneering contributions to the anti-colonial freedom movement will never succeed. The grand tableau prominently displays historic icons including Rani Velu Nachiyar, the valiant Sivaganga queen who defeated the British army decades before the 1857 uprising; the Maruthu Pandiyar brothers; patriotic poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar; and legendary maritime pioneer V.O. Chidambaranar. Stalin emphasized that future generations must learn the courage and sacrifices of southern leaders who resisted colonial subjugation.
The Chief Minister directed cultural authorities to arrange mobile displays so that citizens, students, and youth across urban centers and rural hamlets can view the tableau. Stalin reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu's patriotic legacy remains an inseparable, glorious chapter in India's liberation struggle.
