I have written to Hon'ble Minister @PiyushGoyal, reiterating the demands in my earlier letter where I had informed him about the state of textile industries in Tamil Nadu and have asked him to take measures to control the price of raw materials used by textile industries. https://t.co/f4XNrH6gVN

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a formal communication to Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, reiterating urgent demands to control spiraling raw material prices severely impacting textile and garment manufacturing units across Tamil Nadu. Emphasizing that soaring yarn and raw cotton costs threaten production stability, Stalin highlighted that small and medium textile enterprises face acute financial distress, order cancellations, and operational disruptions.
The Chief Minister pointed out that Tamil Nadu accounts for a major share of India's textile exports and spinning mill capacity, providing livelihoods to millions of skilled and semi-skilled workers, particularly women. He noted that unregulated speculation and steep price volatility in cotton markets have made export commitments unviable for local garment clusters in Tiruppur, Coimbatore, and Karur. Stalin called upon the Union government to suspend import duties on raw cotton, regulate commodity trading, and ensure steady supplies for domestic manufacturers.
Stalin urged the Centre to take proactive regulatory steps to stabilize pricing mechanisms before industrial production suffers irreparable damage. He reaffirmed his government's commitment to standing firmly behind the textile sector, emphasizing that targeted policy interventions are vital to safeguard export competitiveness and prevent widespread worker layoffs.
