Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced comprehensive archaeological excavations across seven ancient historical sites in Tamil Nadu, including Keeladi, Sivagalai, Gangaikondacholapuram, Mayiladumparai, Vembakottai, Thulukkarpatti, and Perumbalai, alongside field surveys to identify the submerged maritime structures of ancient Korkai port. Reaffirming his administration's commitment to historical research, Stalin declared that revealing the deep antiquity of Tamil civilization to the global community is an essential cultural responsibility.
The planned field operations deploy modern scientific methodologies, including stratigraphical mapping, carbon dating, and oceanographic surveys, in partnership with leading scientific research institutes. Stalin explained that previous excavation seasons at Keeladi and Sivagalai have already provided scientific evidence of an advanced, literate, and urban Sangam era society along southern river basins. Extending excavations to interior districts and ancient Pandyan coastal ports will reconstruct trade networks and technological advancements spanning millennia.
Stalin asserted that rewriting the history of the Indian subcontinent must begin from the fertile southern Tamil landscape, grounded in empirical archaeological evidence. He assured sustained state financial and logistical support for the state archaeology department, promising to establish modern on-site museums to display unearthed artifacts for citizens, researchers, and international visitors.
