Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented the prestigious Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Classical Tamil Awards to distinguished scholars at a function in Chennai, celebrating their research contributions to ancient Tamil literature. Paying tribute to former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for securing classical language status for Tamil from the Union government, Stalin reaffirmed his administration's determination to foster scientific research into classical Tamil heritage.
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister announced that the thoroughfare leading to the Central Institute of Classical Tamil campus in Perumbakkam will be officially designated as Semmozhi Salai. He explained that naming this major arterial road after classical Tamil serves as a lasting municipal tribute to Tamil scholars and reflects state pride in ancient linguistic roots. The institution spearheads higher academic research, translations of Sangam literature, and digital preservation of ancient literary corpuses.
Stalin declared that defending Tamil interests and advancing language scholarship remain core duties of his governance model. He pledged continuous budgetary allocation to support advanced philological studies, international conferences, and global academic chairs, asserting that classical Tamil literature offers enduring universal ethical principles for the modern world.
