With the nation awaiting a relief during the pandemic, what this Government has offered is an inept attempt at relief, especially after 7 years of sheer misgovernance at the national level. https://t.co/nLbi9enJHO

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin criticized the Union Budget 2022 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, describing it as fundamentally anti-federal and anti-people. Stalin pointed out that while the nation was urgently awaiting substantial relief measures to recover from pandemic-induced economic distress, the Union Government delivered an inept fiscal package that ignored the hardships of working-class families, small businesses, and agricultural laborers.
The Chief Minister observed that following seven years of economic centralisation and policy missteps at the national level, the budget failed to address soaring unemployment, rising inflation, and declining household purchasing power. He emphasized that the financial allocations neglected vital state demands, reduced fiscal transfers, and placed arbitrary conditions on state borrowing limits, thereby undermining the economic autonomy of state governments. Stalin noted that real economic recovery requires empowering states rather than curbing their developmental spending.
Stalin urged the Union Government to reconsider its rigid fiscal approach and introduce direct stimulus packages for micro, small, and medium enterprises. He reaffirmed Tamil Nadu's unwavering commitment to fighting for equitable fiscal federalism, transparent tax devolution, and adequate revenue-sharing mechanisms for all states.
