Campaigning virtually among voters in Erode district, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin invoked the enduring legacy of rationalist leader Thanthai Periyar, the birthplace of the self-respect movement. Stalin stated that Erode represents the intellectual antidote to communal bigotry and reactionary politics, having nurtured the foundational ideals of social justice and equality that guide Tamil Nadu today.
The Chief Minister noted that the Dravidian Model of governance pioneered by Periyar and DMK founder C.N. Annadurai is now viewed with hope by progressive youth across India. By demonstrating that equitable reservation policies, universal education, and social emancipation foster economic growth, Tamil Nadu offers an inspiring alternative to exclusionary politics. Stalin emphasized that maintaining this progressive momentum requires municipal councils and town panchayats that share this egalitarian commitment.
Stalin asked electors to vote decisively for Secular Progressive Alliance candidates in the urban local body elections to ensure seamless delivery of welfare measures. He pledged that local bodies in Erode will focus on industrial effluent treatment, planned road networks, clean drainage channels, and modern public amenities, honoring Periyar's ideals through responsive civic governance.
