Campaigning for the urban civic elections in Madurai, DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched a scathing critique against the previous AIADMK administration for reducing the ancient heritage city to civic disorder despite boasting that they would transform Madurai into Sydney. Stalin urged voters to put an end to opportunistic political astrologers and false promises by electing the Secular Progressive Alliance to lead the municipal corporation.
The Chief Minister pointed out that a decade of AIADMK governance had left Madurai with unfinished underground drainage schemes, dilapidated roads, acute drinking water shortages, and chronic municipal mismanagement. In contrast, Stalin highlighted that the DMK government had already initiated major restorative projects, including sanctioning the state-of-the-art Kalaignar Memorial Library, expediting the Mullaperiyar dedicated drinking water scheme, and allocating substantial funds to rebuild damaged municipal roads.
Stalin emphasized that Madurai deserves visionary urban leadership that honors its rich cultural heritage while building modern, sustainable public infrastructure. He promised that a DMK-led municipal corporation will restore civic cleanliness, expand public amenities, and ensure responsive municipal administration, turning Madurai into a prosperous, flourishing cultural and commercial hub in southern Tamil Nadu.
