Promoting urban ecological sustainability and household wellness, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin encouraged citizens to adopt domestic rooftop and kitchen gardening under state horticulture programs. Stalin highlighted that growing nutrient-dense greens, vegetables, and fruit plants within home compounds not only enhances urban greenery and household aesthetics, but also provides families with direct access to clean, chemical-free, nutritious food.
The Chief Minister linked home farming initiatives with broader ecological conservation, reiterating the government's steadfast commitment to eradicating single-use plastic waste. Through campaigns such as Meendum Manjappai, the state is actively discouraging throwaway non-biodegradable plastics that choke waterways, contaminate soil, and endanger urban biodiversity. Stalin emphasized that individual domestic eco-friendly habits, when adopted across millions of urban households, generate powerful systemic improvements in public health and environmental resilience.
Stalin assured that the state horticulture department will continue providing subsidized rooftop farming kits, organic seeds, and technical guidance to urban residents and apartment associations. He urged citizens across all cities and towns to become proactive partners in building a greener, cleaner Tamil Nadu by minimizing plastic consumption and cultivating sustainable living green spaces at home.
