Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dispatched an urgent official communication to Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, requesting immediate diplomatic intervention to safely evacuate thousands of college students from Tamil Nadu stranded across Ukraine amidst escalating armed hostilities. Stalin highlighted the acute vulnerability of young scholars trapped in university dormitories and underground transit stations with dwindling provisions and uncertain transport access.
To guarantee seamless communication and logistical efficiency, Stalin urged the Ministry of External Affairs to appoint a dedicated senior nodal officer to coordinate directly with the Tamil Nadu government's emergency relief team. He informed the Union minister that the state administration had already activated round-the-clock help desks in Chennai and New Delhi to gather verified student manifests, contact details, and precise geographic coordinates for emergency evacuation planning.
The Chief Minister assured that Tamil Nadu stands ready to offer all required logistical assistance and will bear full travel expenses for repatriating students safely to their home districts. Stalin underscored that ensuring the security and physical well-being of Indian citizens caught in foreign conflict zones remains an overriding national priority, urging prompt consular arrangements at nearby border crossings.
