Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin unveiled a bronze statue of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Thoothukudi, addressing newly elected municipal corporation and panchayat representatives. Recalling Karunanidhi enduring counsel that public office is not mere power but deep social responsibility, Stalin urged civic leaders to conduct administration with humility, honesty, and unwavering devotion to citizen welfare.
The Chief Minister reminded elected ward members and mayors that their performance in delivering clean drinking water, sanitation, street lighting, and road infrastructure will be monitored continuously. Stalin stated that while he extends congratulations to them today upon assuming office, his ultimate satisfaction will depend on whether the public praises their daily administrative conduct tomorrow. He urged representatives to remain accessible to residents and resolve localized grievances without delay.
Stalin emphasized that transparent grassroots governance forms the bedrock of the Dravidian model. He directed local body representatives to implement state welfare schemes efficiently, eradicate civic bottlenecks, and preserve public trust, ensuring that democratic decentralization delivers tangible quality-of-life improvements across all urban and rural local bodies throughout the entire state of Tamil Nadu.
