Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin warmly invited the public to attend Namma Ooru Thiruvizha, a grand cultural extravaganza celebrating traditional Tamil folk arts, organized by the Department of Art and Culture at Island Grounds in Chennai. Bringing together over four hundred authentic folk performers, traditional drummers, and rural musicians from every district across the state, the festival offered an immersive showcase of Tamil Nadu rich intangible cultural heritage. Stalin described the festival as a vibrant celebration of the soil art and the people music.
The Chief Minister emphasized that ancient folk art forms such as Parai Aattam, Karagattam, Oyilattam, and Therukoothu represent the authentic democratic voice and egalitarian spirit of ordinary working people. He noted that the Dravidian movement has always patronized grassroots performers, rescuing indigenous art traditions from elite neglect and social marginalization. The festival provides artists with dignified performance platforms, institutional recognition, and financial compensation.
Stalin extended a personal welcome to families, students, and culture enthusiasts to witness the dynamic performances and support traditional artists. He reaffirmed his government unwavering commitment to preserving folk heritage, promoting cultural pride, and providing continuous welfare support to hereditary artist communities across Tamil Nadu.
